This is a print of an original watercolor painting. The artist started out as a textiles designer in NYC so patterns are frequently a part of the final product. The artist has also held a deep love for watercolor since she was a child because money was tight but she could afford a Crayola watercolor set. The stripe in the background is called a "ticking stripe" and is based on the fabric that was once used for mattresses because it has few colors and was cheap to produce. This stripe is painted with gouache (opaque watercolor) because that is the same paint textiles designers used before computerization and because you can use gouache to create really clean and straight edges. The artist is also a twin.
