I grew up in a small Colorado town but I studied art at Syracuse University and became a textile designer in NYC. My very first professional job as a designer was at Waverly in New York City. My preferences lean toward illustrative and representational techniques, though I love a lot of abstract art as well.
After 9/11, I felt trapped in NYC and moved to Paris, then London, and returned to school to study business. It was in working in marketing full time that I realized how much I loved painting for fun. When art is your full time job, it can be about the paycheck and not about the passion.
As I started painting things as gifts for friends rather than to meet commercial demands, I discovered how much I enjoyed creating artwork and how I was inspired by so many things around me.
